Leven Miniatures Supply Dumps

Earlier in the year I contacted Mick at Leven Miniatures about making some resin 6mm supply dumps. Mick produced some really great detailed models which, I'm pleased to say, will be available to everyone else shortly. I was really impressed with the good service and the quality of the castings, highly recommended!

First up are the 4 different versions followed by close ups of the individual models. These were really easy to paint.

Mick has also produced me some stacks of boxes for use with my Anglo-Zulu War figures.

German Infantry 1944

This is the first of the two German Infantry Battalions for my Grenadier Regiment:

The battalion has 3 companies of infantry (note the Panzershreck equipped stand) each of 3 stands (GR8):

3 82mm Mortar Stands (GR2) representing those of the support company and of the Grenadier companies which are consolidated together to allow them to be represented at 1:4 scale. On the far right is the single MMG stand (GR2) (part of the support company):

Battalion HQ (G185) and Kubelwagen (G089):

Also completed are the support elements from the Regimental Anti-Tank and Infantry Gun Companies. First up is the 75mm PAK 40 (G054) and the 150mm sIG33 infantry gun (G067):

Then we have the 75mm infantry guns (G066):

I still have truck tows to add to motorise these support companies.

Finally we have the StuG IIIG (G064) Company and Marder IIIH (G035) Company forming part of the Divisional Panzerjager Battalion:

The Marders are probably the incorrect models for Normandy but the correct versions don't seem to be available in 6mm.

All models are from Heroics & Ros (Heroics & Ros codes are shown in ()).

US Reconnaissance 1944

These are my first US troops for the Normandy '44 campaign:

We have M8 Greyhounds (US16) and Reconnaissance Jeeps (US38), together they make up the Divisional Reconnaissance Squadron.

All models are from Heroics & Ros (Heroics & Ros codes are shown in ()).

Egyptian BTR-50 1973

Having started these some time ago I thought I really ought to finish them off. I have completed 5 BTR-50PB's (SM17) used to transport the infantry companies and the battalion mortars, also completed is a single BTR-50PU (SM18) to act as the battalion command vehicle:

I'll be adding another pair of BTR-50PB's at some point to complete the battalions transport (I need 6 for transporting the 3 infantry companies, 1 for the mortars and 1 for the HQ, I'll also be adding an SU-100 as these were used as the anti-tank batteries vehicles).

All models are from Heroics & Ros (Heroics & Ros codes are shown in ()).

Normandy 1944

Recently I've been doing some planning/painting for the start of a new project based around the Allied landings in Normandy in June 1944.

Having done some research in to the US 1st Infantry Division and the German 352nd Infantry Division I came up with the idea of creating regimental sized battlegroup lists that would each feature a set of core units and a range of optional units for a player to choose from. These lists were deliberately designed to both provide a good range of different units to choose from and to limit the amount of painting I had to do.

As an example the German list gives the following Core Units:

Regimental HQ (CO)

Regimental Anti-Tank Company (PAK40)

Regimental Infantry Gun Company (2 75mm and 1 150mm guns)

2 Grenadier Battalions, each with a HQ, 3 Grenadier Companies (3 stands each) and a support company (MMG and 3 mortar stands)

These core units can be supplemented by a combination of Attachments:

Panzerjager Battalion (2 StuG IIIG, 3 Marder III and 2 truck mounted 37mm AA guns)

Divisional Fusilier Battalion (organised as the Grenadiers above but with 1 company on bicycles)

Ost Battalion (4 infantry companies made up of Russian "Volunteers", rated as Conscripts)

Attached Grenadier Battalion (4 Grenadier Companies (1 on bicycles), rated as Fortress Troops)

Divisional Pioneer Company (3 engineer stands, possibly on bicycles)

Divisional Artillery Battalion(s) (105mm or 150mm towed artillery guns)

Aircraft (FW-190 and HS-129's, though with no air superiority they might not arrive on the battlefield very often!)

Added to this I will be creating a few Corps level units that might be available depending on the scenario. These will probably consist of a StuG Brigade, a towed Panzerjager Battalion and 1 company of Jagdpanthers.

Some pictures of the first completed units and a few other items I've been working on (including some very nice resin pieces from Leven Miniatures) will follow over the weekend.....
